This department is responsible for drafting policies and procedures acceptable to professional standards in areas of archives, records management, museum and historic preservation at Tall Timbers.

Archivist Juanita Whiddon works with other staff regarding proper retention periods/transfer/disposal of all records created as part of the institution’s activities.

As Tall Timbers historian, Juanita’s primary exhibit responsibility is for historic areas, although she assists other staff to design exhibits. She works with staff and Committees of Board and Volunteer Association to utilize historic components for public relations, education and development purposes. And, she monitors compliance with the National Register of Historic Places guidelines for all subject buildings, grounds, maintenance, etc.

A loyal group of volunteers helps Juanita to maintain and interpret the Beadel HouseJones Family Tenant Farm and the historic grounds around these buildings. Tours of these buildings are held once a month, usually on the second Sunday. Click here for a schedule.

Finally, Juanita is responsible for all archival care of Tall Timbers’ documents and reference requests. These are housed in the Archives Building.
