How and where communities grow in the Red Hills Region affects the surrounding rural landscape. Encouraging residential growth in rural areas fragments these lands, destroys wildlife habitat, requires costly infrastructure and services, and adversely affects water quality. There are, however, alternatives in the form of more compact, mixed use developments in or near urban areas where transportation costs are lower and taxpayer funded infrastructure and services can be provided more cost effectively. The issue brief below highlights one of the most important issues Tall Timbers is involved in: maintaining rural densities in the Leon County portion of the Red Hills Region.
