East Texas prescribed fire a collaboration focused on quail

Apr 17, 2024

Multiple Tall Timbers programs and the East Texas Prescribed Burn Association joined together to burn more than 650 acres in East Texas in February to improve wild bobwhite quail habitat.

Prescribed fire on the property of Stan Graff, who struggled to find a suitable fire vendor and reached out to Tall Timbers, was part of several years of habitat work in an effort to revive historic bobwhite quail populations in the region. It also was a chance to train on-site staff how fire could be safely implemented.

Tall Timbers’ Game Bird Program, the Geospatial Center and the Private Lands Prescribed Fire Initiative came together to safely apply fire and grow the footprint of the Western Pineywoods Quail Program.
