Established in 1894, Hoover Plantation is one of the best wildlife management tracts in the southeast with a rich history. Approximately 2,400 contiguous acres in Jasper County in South Carolina. Much of the landscape consists of open pine stands of mature longleaf pine, loblolly pine and live oak scattered among slightly rolling hills, dissected by an array of canals and dotted with several freshwater ponds.
The property is intensively managed as a hunting and recreational estate for owners and guests for well over a century. Game species management is at the forefront of our focus while maintaining an ecologically sound environment for non-game species as well. We provide an atmosphere in which our employees can grow and progress through work experience and training. The assistant manager will aid in the creation and completion of tasks concerning all aspects of wildlife with a focus on properties. This individual will be expected to perform tasks in the field and with a willingness to travel between locations. Above all, this position must maintain a steady line of communication. Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Dog kennel maintenance
o Maintenance hunting vehicles and accessories
o Animal care of dogs
o Exercising both dogs
o Aiding in training of dogs
• Maintenance of quail woods
o Mowing
o Harvesting dead trees (lightning strikes, blow downs)
o Controlled burning
• Feeding of quail and ducks
o Keeping up with grain bin maintenance and feed levels
o Maintaining skeet throwers and shotgun shell inventory
o Gun cleaning and dog transportation
o Decoy, boat, blind and duck impoundment maintenance
o Predator control
• Deer, dove and turkey hunting
o Scouting
o Stand and blind maintenance
o Controlled tag harvesting
o Feeding and maintenance of wildlife food supplements
• Farming
o Aid with planting, harvesting dove fields, duck impoundments
o Maintenance of supplemental planting
