Description
The Ranch Manager will be responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch, its facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining RPQRF’s dog kennels, fencing, gates, water systems, and drainage, as well as assisting with the routine care of Foundation dogs. The Ranch Manager will ensure that kennel facilities remain clean, safe, and functional. The position will perform routine maintenance and repairs on ranch buildings, offices, guest facilities, storage buildings, roads, fences, gates, water systems, and other infrastructure. Duties may include basic plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, welding, painting, and general repairs. The Ranch Manager will identify maintenance needs and coordinate outside contractors when specialized work is required. The Ranch Manager will also maintain RPQRF vehicles and equipment, including trucks, UTVs, trailers, tractors, implements, and small engines. Responsibilities include routine servicing, minor repairs, troubleshooting mechanical problems, maintaining service records, and keeping the ranch shop, tools, parts, and supplies organized. Additional ranch duties will include mowing, shredding, road maintenance, brush management, prescribed-fire preparation, and operation of tractors, skid steers, UTVs, trailers, and other equipment. The Ranch Manager will provide operational support to RPQRF research staff, including assistance with field projects, equipment deployment, quail trapping, surveys, and habitat-management activities. The position will also help prepare the Research Ranch and facilities for Board members, donors, researchers, educational programs, hunts, and other guests. The Ranch Manager must be dependable, self-motivated, capable of working independently, and willing to respond to unexpected maintenance or ranch-related needs as they arise.

The ideal candidate will have experience in ranch operations, agriculture, construction, mechanical repair, facilities maintenance, or a related field. A college degree is not required. Practical experience, reliability, work ethic, and mechanical ability are more important for this position. Candidates should have a valid driver's license and clean driving record; experience operating tractors, UTVs, trailers, and ranch equipment; basic mechanical and maintenance skills; and the physical ability to perform outdoor work, lift and carry materials, and work in West Texas weather conditions. Welding, fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, small-engine repair, and vehicle-maintenance experience are highly desirable. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, recognize what needs to be done without constant supervision, prioritize multiple projects, and maintain RPQRF property and equipment to a high standard.
