Central Florida Rangeland Quail Program

The Central Florida Rangeland Quail Program began in 2017 as a research and monitoring program to answer the questions of how to manage for bobwhites in the unique habitats of central and south Florida. Tall Timbers’ staff have historically visited the ranches of central Florida for decades, but to meet the goals of the 2016 10-year strategic plan and the renewed interest from private land owners led to the creation of the regional project. The program is under the direction of Geoff Beane with a focus on habitat restoration, long term research, and monitoring efforts by using year round radio-tracking of wild quail and offering guidance and technical assistance for landowners interested in managing for wild quail.

Tall Timbers conducts research on two ranches in central Florida: one in Osceola County and the other in Indian River county currently. In 2019, we began our first interstate wild quail translocation project bringing wild quail back to a ranch that had previously been used as a release quail hunting site.
