Education & Outreach
University Mentorship and Teaching
Program Director Kevin Robertson, PhD, advises graduate students through courtesy appointments with the University of Florida, Florida State University, Auburn University, Louisiana State University and other universities as an outside committee member. He with other staff hosts field courses and is a periodic university guest lecturer. The Fire Ecology Program hosts internships for undergraduate students each year
Southern Fire Exchange
Dr. Robertson is co-principal investigator and an administrative team member for the Southern Fire Exchange supported by the Joint Fire Sciences Program to deliver a wide range of fire science information and tools to managers, landowners, and policy makers.
Editing and Conference Planning
Dr. Robertson is an Associate Editor for the journal Fire Ecology. He has served on steering committees and provided editing for conferences including meetings of the Association for Fire Ecology and Tall Timbers Fire Ecology Conferences and their Proceedings and a special issue of the Journal of Sustainable Forestry.
Training Professionals
The Fire Ecology Program participates in several programs to teach professionals, including the National Interagency Prescribed Fire Training Center, National Wildfire Coordinating Group training courses, and other courses for state and federal agency personnel and private land managers hosted at Tall Timbers.
Coastal Plain Plant Online Database
The Fire Ecology Program manages the Coastal Plain Plants online wiki website to provide information on many plant species in the region, with an emphasis on fire-dependent upland pine communities.
