Advocacy

A voice for conservation, working rural lands,
and smart growth

Tall Timbers is a truly unique institution. In addition to being the birthplace of the study of prescribed fire, a multi-faceted biological research station, and one of the largest regional land trusts in the Southeast, Tall Timbers has also judiciously engaged in advocacy in support of our mission.

Whether lobbying to protect landowners’ right to use prescribed fire, helping pass conservation use valuation of rural forestland, defeating a petroleum pipeline through the heart of the region, or maintaining rural zoning to curb urban sprawl, Tall Timbers’ advocacy efforts have helped ensure the long-term sustainability of the Red Hills.
