At the April Tall Timbers Board of Trustees meeting, longtime trustee Tom L. Rankin became the chairman of the board. He replaced Cornelia G. Corbett who had been at the helm since 2013. Tom has been a trustee since 2005, and has served as treasurer of the organization since 2011; as such he guided Tall Timbers financially as chair of the finance and investment committees.
Tall Timbers is proud to welcome J. Kevin Hiers as our new Wildland Fire Scientist. Kevin has worked in prescribed fire science arena for nearly 20 years, has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications, and has a track record of cooperative work that fits perfectly with the new Tall Timbers Strategic Plan to attract prescribed fire expertise to the region.
Over the last year, Grady County has become a popular destination for commercial poultry growers in southwest Georgia. The Cairo Messenger newspaper reported in February that countywide, as many as 30 new commercial poultry barns are under consideration in Grady County. Last year, the County issued permits for at least 32 commercial poultry barns.
